Spring?

          I'm sitting here in my cozy third floor garret, trying to work during my working vacation.  I don't do well with sudden seasonal change and am wearing my fingerless gloves, wrapped up in my fleece bathrobe and scarf and am starting to shiver.  I had taken my long johns off but knew enough not to pack them away.  Now that it's spring, we've had more snow in this one day than we've had all winter.  I love snow and don't mind the cold, but this bitter chill has gotten right into my bones.  I was already acclimating to the warmer weather - as was my garden.  Unfortunately, the apple trees had already started to bud and won't like this sudden change either.  Hopefully, it won't be irreparable.  Meanwhile, after writing this, I'm going to hunker down next to the wood stove and try to warm those chilled bones and hope that my peas are surviving in their hoop house and that the tulips (already budding) will withstand the blanket of snow.

          I've had a crazy couple of months both personally and professionally.  I like being busy though, and have managed to have some fun in the mix.  Last month, I started up a monthly music jam because I got tired of practicing and playing alone.  I thrive on playing in an ensemble, so I figured it was time to make a change of some kind.  I ran an open jam for years out of my home and now have a great studio space in which to host more.  The first one was small, which is just what I was looking for.  I imagine that, as time goes on and word gets out, it will be larger, but I plan to cut it off at a certain point to keep it at a manageable number. 

          I also finished the audio recording for my upcoming music video "In Winter."  It sounds great with oboe, banjo, bass, mountain dulcimer, synthesizer and electric guitar.  It would be silly to release it during the summer, so the release date will now be late this fall.  We still have a little filming to do, so this snow may actually  be a blessing.  Who would've thought?  And, maybe I'll actually get to snowshoe for the first (and probably only) time this season.
